This is the opening line to Grant Green’s solo on Brazil. Wonderful track.
Interesting how he puts his line together. If you reduce this to only include the melody notes found on beats 1 & 3 of each bar you would, I believe, hear the essential line. Not sure if you would call this a guide tone. I’d imagine yes. Regardless, the way he connects these notes using chromaticism and targeting is a study in “bop”. Thoughts?

Here is my transcription of George Benson’s “I Remember Wes”. It’s a lovely solo and not too difficult to get down. It also has a few interesting devices within that give you a glimpse into his style/thoughts.
A few years back I bought “The Art Of Jazz Guitar” DVD. It’s a wonderful informal look into one of the great jazz guitarists of our time. George discusses his influences, improvisation ideas and much more. Can’t recommend this DVD any higher. IMHO a must for all jazz guitarists to have in their library. Hope you enjoy playing through the transcription. Drop me a line if you do.

Here’s a track written in honour a two friends. It’s a lament. I often get told it sounds like Jeff Beck.
I should be so lucky
Hope you like it. Using the Valley Arts stratocaster with little finger on the volume knob for the swells.
